The Second International Conference of the Leuven-Nijmegen Research Centre Polemikos<\/em><\/a> will be dedicated to the harsh debates between Catholic and Cathar Christians in the Middle Ages. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

–<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We will examine the self-perception of the Cathars \u2013 those Christians branded as heretics \u2013 as a church and the changes in this perception as it developed in opposition to the Catholic church.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Special attention will be given to the methods and effects of this polemical confrontation and its role in (re-)defining the religious identity of both sides.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Late Medieval Christianity rose like a phoenix from the ashes of this tension between the Cathars\u2019 appeal to traditional values \u200b\u200band the Catholic Church\u2019s socio-political power strategies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

La deuxi\u00e8me conf\u00e9rence internationale du Centre de recherche Leuven-Nijmegen Polemikos<\/a><\/strong> sera consacr\u00e9e aux durs d\u00e9bats entre chr\u00e9tiens catholiques et cathares au Moyen \u00c2ge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nous examinerons l’auto-perception des cathares – ces chr\u00e9tiens qualifi\u00e9s d’h\u00e9r\u00e9tiques – en tant qu’\u00e9glise et les changements dans cette perception au fur et \u00e0 mesure qu’elle s’est d\u00e9velopp\u00e9e en opposition \u00e0 l’\u00e9glise catholique.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Une attention particuli\u00e8re sera accord\u00e9e aux modalit\u00e9s et aux effets de cette confrontation pol\u00e9mique et \u00e0 son r\u00f4le dans la (re)d\u00e9finition de l’identit\u00e9 religieuse des deux c\u00f4t\u00e9s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Le christianisme de la fin du Moyen \u00c2ge est n\u00e9 comme un ph\u00e9nix des cendres de cette tension entre l’appel des cathares aux valeurs traditionnelles et les strat\u00e9gies de pouvoir socio-politique de l’\u00c9glise catholique.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
